Sugar and spice, and everything’s nice

Call the police; there’s an enormous snake running loose in Chinatown. Wait, that’s just an 8-foot gummy python at It’Sugar, one of the many delicious mega sweets at the new store.

It’Sugar opened its first D.C. store this week. The new specialty retailer is nationally known for its mega-sized treats, such as the two pounder Rice Krispies Treats and five pound gummy bears.

Founder Jeff Rubin spent his childhood and early adult life working for his family’s candy store in Detroit. After he visited the FAO Schwartz store in New York City, he knew he wanted to be more than a seller of fine chocolates. He wanted to be like the king of candy.

Rubin told The Washington Post he wanted to create something new and exciting. He said It’Sugar is meant for the “rebellious teen” in everyone.
